The area lost another past basketball great yesterday in the passing of Johnny Bill Moeller. Not only was he a great basketball player in his time, he was also a great person. He will be missed. Good Bye Johnny Bill.
My question to you is.....if he played at Indiana State from 66-69, did he play with Bob Barker?
My better half said yes dinger, here information about Barker.
BOB BARKER
Student-Athlete
1968-1971
Bob Barker played basketball at Indiana State from 1968 to 1971, averaging 15.4 points per game. He was named to the 1971 All-Midwestern Conference team along with 2008 Hall of Fame inductee George Pillow. Barker’s name still appears in the Sycamore men’s basketball record book as he is 18th in career scoring (1,199 points) and seventh in rebounding average (7.9 rebounds per game).
Barker scored a career high 35 points against Butler on Feb. 7, 1970 and led the 1969-1970 team in scoring with 445 points, an average of 17.1 points per game.
He had 20 or more rebounds three times during his Sycamore career as he grabbed 22 rebounds against Butler on Jan. 7, 1970 and had 22 against Ball State on Jan. 10, 1970; both marks tying him for third in the ISU single game rebounding performance list. He also had 20 against Western Illinois on Jan. 12, 1970, a total that ranks eighth on the single game rebounding list.
This took some digging. I believe that the answer is Mike Copper from Valparaiso class of 1965. (A Very Good Year, by the way). he went on to Indiana State and then coached for 16 years at Munster, Paoli and Warren Central. He coached 7 sectional winners and 3 holiday tourney winners at these schools.
My question to you is.....if he played at Indiana State from 66-69, did he play with Bob Barker?
Illinois adopted a two-class system for the 1971-72 season. The first winners were Lawrenceville for Class A and Dolton Thornridge for Class AA. Thornridge was lead by future Indiana and NBA star Quinn Buckner. Illinois then changed again in 2007-08 to a four class system. indiana adopted a multi-class system in 1998, going to 4 divisions based on school enrollment.
Now - back at you Mrs. Mart - who were the final four on 1997 in Indiana in the final "no class" tournament?
Excluding the years of 1943-45, which school's gym was used to host the Indiana State Championships from 1928-1971?
Butler University in Indianapolis
The Butler Fieldhouse was built in 1928 and was for more than 20 years the largest in the country. It was renamed Hinkle Fieldhouse in 1966 after former coach and athletic director, Paul D. "Tony" Hinkle. The fieldhouse was used for the war effort during World War II.
Tom Arnholt graduated from Columbus High School in 1968.
He averaged 25.2 points per game that year and set a CHS gym record by scoring 50 points in a single game. He was an Indiana All Star that year also.
He was the leading freshman scorer at Vanderbilt University at an ave. of 22.4 points per game and still holds the freshman single game record of 51 points in a game. He was named to the all SEC sophomore team. He was their team captain in his senior year, and was drafted by the Memphis Pros in 1972. he was named to the Indiana Silver Anniversary team in 1993.
Ok, this is not really trivia, but a friend of mine sent this to me. It was written by Richard Artmeier formally from Clarksburg.
"Wayne Ziegler was my basketball coach at Clarksburg High School in 1951 and 1952. We didn't win any county or sectional tournaments, however, he was one of the most influential people in my life!!
Because of Coach Ziegler, I received a full basketball scholarship to Florida State University. In 1984, I was elected to membership in the Florida State Sports Basketball Hall of Fame. In 1959, after serving my time in the Army, I received by Masters Degree from Florida State and in 1971 my Doctorate from Indiana University."
Wow! Quite a tribute to a small school coach and future principal!
